synopsis
A body in Seoul lies awake, unable to fall asleep. Insomnia returns her to adolescence, when she was told to stay awake to study, chasing the promise of migration to the city. Reading in bed becomes a form of meditation, her voice trembling as if possessed. The body connects to past urgencies of migration and developmental pressure toward the city. She begins to fabricate a fable on power and restlessness.
Lectio Divina asks how the aspiration for a better life drives bodies, with modernity attaching desire to institutions, standardized language, and the metropolis. The desire to become legible comes at the cost of inhabiting unequal economic structures, while migration repeatedly dissects the self across spatial hierarchies. What appears as individual aspiration is lived as a bodily negotiation with history.
The research combined autobiographical writing, filming everyday life, oral histories, and urban studies, while approaching bodily trembling as a form of knowledge attuned to the lingering urgency of Korea's compressed modernity.
Body struggles to come to rest within the paradox in modernity: its promises of freedom, equality, communication, and a better life are built upon the pursuit of power, hierarchy, and competition.

이 영화는 불면의 기나긴 시간을 따라 방황한다. 여러 개의 침대를 오가며 불면에 시달리는 청년의 몸은 지나온/미래의 이주에 대한 기억과 기획으로 바쁘게 뜀박질한다.
이 영화가 다루는 이주는 근대 이후 삶의 필수불가결한 조건이다. 때로 성취되어야 할 목표이자 꿈이다. 이를테면, 한국의 십대들에게 서울로의 대학 진학과 이주는 다른 삶의 가치를 유예하더라도 좇아야 하는 미션이다.
이 영화는 이주가 더 큰 경제적, 문화적 권력으로 향하게 되는 구조적 흐름 속에서 발생하며, 이것이 근대 이후 세계를 움직이는 발전주의와 한 몸임을 직시한다. 더 나은 삶에 대한 갈망은 발전한 도시의 풍경을 모델로 하고, 전통은 쉽게 파괴되고 대체된다. 이주를 해결책으로 떠올리고, 공간적 그리드 위에서 개인의 인격을 끊임없이 해부하고 재배치한다.
경상남도의 초가집에서 부산으로, 부산에서 서울로, 서울에서 유럽으로. 이 신화적인 이주경로는 한국이 이룩하고자 한 비약적 발전을 닮았고, 부모 세대부터 이어진 나의 가족사이기도 하다. 태어나고 자란 곳에서의 이방감, 끝없는 유목 속에서 소멸하는 것들에 대한 애상 같은 것들이 이 영화가 시작된 곳이다.
성공적인 이주/발전 서사에서 쉽게 극복되고, 지워지는 것들에 초점을 맞춘다. 침대 위에서의 읽기는 불면과 히스테리를 병리가 아닌 새로운 관점으로 향하는 정치적 감수성으로 전복하며, 대안적 지식생산 과정을 보여준다. 지식을 사회적 지위 상승을 위한 도구로 소유하고 평가받는 것에서 벗어나, 자신을 이해하고 사랑하는 수행으로 재전유한다.
홈 비디오의 성격을 띠는 영상의 미감은 친밀함과 동시에 불안정성을 드러낸다. 선형 서사를 거부하고 몸의 리듬을 따라 방황하는 구조는 생산성과 효율을 강요하는 사회적인 시간성에 대한 저항이다. 몸의 리듬을 중심에 둔 편집은 관객의 호흡과 시간 감각에 스며 들며, 관객과 영화의 시간을 함께 겪는다.
이 영화는 몸을 역사, 사회구조, 읽은 텍스트가 통과하는 장소로 보고, 불면/낭독을 통해 오늘날 사회가 전제하고 있는 발전과 이주의 논리를 질문한다.
