This research traces hysteria, insomnia, and sudden impulses that occupy the body, focusing on the body as a site where embodied structures, internalized texts, and natality penetrate. Acknowledging oneself as a patient, the research unfolds through a series of performances, studies of modern Korean history, and corporeal writing, while critically dismantling the developmentalist logics that have driven South Korea’s compressed modernization.

Body as a Field
I take the body as a field
A machine primed with fierceness
A habit of internalized structures,
A monument built from memory,
Blood passed down through history,
Organs fed with what has been read and digested,
Water of impulses—soaring, flooding.
This research focuses on the body as a site where impulses, texts, and embodied structures penetrate—an inquiry into embodied knowledge.
Acknowledging oneself as a patient.
Neurosis, hysteria, insomnia, and sudden impulses that occupy the body become the format of the work.
Recall memories of high school years.
Turn on a voice recorder and tell what comes to mind.
Revisit old notes as if exploring historical ruins.
Ask people about their memories of a Sunday afternoon at age nineteen.
Enact the impulse to unroll a toilet paper roll.
Ask parents about their childhood migration and follow your bodily drive.
Visit your mother’s old house.
Learn from your father how to ride a bike.
Read oral histories of Seoul citizens.
Walk through Jongno with a camera in hand.
Read academic research on the modernization of Seoul.
Write a poem from the sensations and memories around a suitcase.
This research departs from the conventional notion of “gathering data.” Instead it relies on a bundle of acts, collections, and movements carried out under obsessions and curiosities. Research is not separated from daily life. Text, photographs, and sounds are collected and rearranged across different terrains of life and work.
This approach intersects with autobiographical and sensuous modes of writing of Virginia Woolf, Annie Ernaux, Clarice Lispector, and Marguerite Duras. Often categorized as practitioners of l’écriture féminine, there works have illuminated realms often excluded from rational, academic discourse.
This research practice will continue to be shared through future projects and events .. .

Hysteric Metropolitan은 몸의 취약함을 중심에 두고, 발전주의 신화를 감각적으로 해체하는 아티스틱 리서치다. 졸업 프로젝트로 치열했던 입시와 서울로의 이주를 되돌아보며, 체화된 지식embodied knowledge을 사유의 구심점으로 삼는다. 더 큰 경제적, 문화적 권력을 향한 욕망의 흐름 속에서 몸에 배양된 불안과 긴장에 집중한다. 부정적 감정-히스테리, 불면, 긴장-을 통치성을 감지하는 앎의 상태로 보고, 지식생산의 방법으로 실험한다. 삶과 작업의 여러 층위에서 텍스트와 사진, 사운드 등을 수집하고 재배열한 수행적 리서치가 이 작업의 주요 메소드이다.

몸을 하나의 장으로 삼는다
나의 몸은 맹렬함이 예비된 기계다
구조를 체화한 습관이다
기억이 깃든 유적이다
역사를 거쳐온 피이다
읽고 소화한 텍스트들의 장기organs다
충동을 일으키는 물이다
이 리서치는 충동, 읽은 텍스트, 체화된 구조 등이 통과하는 장소로서 몸에 집중하고, 체화된 지식embodied knowledge 을 적극적으로 사유한다.
Acknowledging oneself as a patient. 몸을 점거하는 신경증과 히스테리, 불면, 충동을 작업의 포맷으로 삼는다.
고등학교 시절의 기억을 불러온다
녹음기를 켜놓고 떠오르는 것들을 구술한다
마치 유적을 탐방하듯이 그때 썼던 메모장, 수행평가로
냈던 보고서에 방문한다
사람들에게 열아홉살 일요일 오후의 기억을 묻는다
두루마리 휴지를 풀고 싶은 충동을 실현한다
엄마아빠의 이주와 관련한 기억을 묻고
떠오르는 행위 충동을 실행한다
엄마의 옛날집에 가본다
아빠에게 자전거를 배워본다
서울주민 구술생애사 책을 읽고
카메라를 들고 종로를 걷는다
서울의 발전과 관련된 논문을 읽는다
캐리어에 관한 충동으로 시를 지어본다
이 리서치는 '자료를 수집한다’는 일반적인 의미에서 벗어나, 어떤 관심을 염두에 두고 한 행위들, 모은 것들- 그 뭉치들을 느슨하게 조직해서 보인다. 리서치는 일상과 구분되지 않으며, 삶과 작업의 여러 층위에서 텍스트와 사진, 사운드 등을 수집하고, 재배열한다.
이러한 접근법은 버지니아 울프, 아니 에르노, 클라리시 리스펙토르, 마르그리뜨 뒤라스 등의 작업들과 교차한다. '여성석 글쓰기’ 의 실천가라고 구분되기도 하는 이들은 자전적인 경험을 탐구하여 파편적이고 감각적인 사유를 건네주며, 그를 통해 이성과 논리가 지배하는 학술적 글쓰기가 포착하지 못하는 영역들을 조명했다.
