My photo series Would you come across? started after I found myself criticizing and avoiding people with my defensive mind. Working on the series, I dig into my defense mechanism, a feeling of resistance to the situation of getting close to someone. It creates a distorted perception that the person may have too much or no influence on my life. In a photo in the series, the model seems to be on top of the viewer's head and in the other one, the viewer seems to be on top of her head. The model in the series plays dynamic imaginations created by the defense system. With installation, the story in the series is reproduced in the encounter of the model and the viewer.
Photography is basically a flat image that captures past and the audience should figure out the meaning behind its surface. I tried to design a different way to tell stories because I sometimes feel I don’t want to make an effort to grasp the past stories of someone I don’t know. With this in mind, I design the interactive photo series that involves the viewers into the story and is completed by the viewer's gaze, position and action. The viewers can choose whether to turn over the transparent film to see other sides of the model. Or they can find themselves reflected on the broken mirror while gazing the model. The encounter between the viewer and the photograph actively intersects with the encounter between the self and the other.

타인에 대한 복잡한 감정을 겪을 때, 그 정체를 탐구하며 시작된 작업이다. 마음속에서 이리저리 상상되는 타자를 피사체로 포착하고, 그 사진을 풍경처럼 설치했다. 이 사진과 설치는 나의 복잡했던 내면 풍경을 재현한다. 관객은 위치, 시선, 행위에 따라 피사체/작품과 관계 맺는다. 피사체의 머리 꼭대기 위로 시선을 내리꽂기, 피사체의 발 아래에 위치하기. 필름을 넘ㅁ겨 피사체의 다른 모습을 보기/보지 않기. 피사체를 보고 있지만 결국 보게 되는 건 거울에 비친 자신의 모습뿐. 나는 이 감정에 대해 방어기제라는 단어를 떠올렸다. 타인을 말과 행동을 바탕으로 추론하고 분류하며, 그를 분주하게 읽어낸다. 그럴수록 아이러니하게도 나의 예상을 깨는 타인을 마주한다. 이때 타인은 나의 이해로는 완전히 포섭할 수 없는 정교한 존재이면서도, 나의 추론을 천진난만하게 넘나드는 절대자처럼 느껴진다. 그리고 내가 타인에게 행했던 해석은 실은 나에 대한 것임을 깨닫게 된다. 이 시리즈는 관객을 연루하여, 선택하게 하고, 그를 통해 이야기한다. 관객과 사진의 마주침은 자아와 타자의 마주침과 교차한다.
